Correction of slab boundary artifact using histogram matching.

چکیده
PURPOSE To improve the imaging efficiency of multi-slab three-dimensional acquisitions by decreasing slab overlap and the number of blanked slices. MATERIALS AND METHODS Application of the histogram matching technique for correction of the slab boundary artifact (SBA) due to non-ideal radiofrequency pulse profiles has been proposed. The technique was validated by studying its effectiveness in reducing the SBA in phantom images, as well as in proton density- and T2-weighted brain images. RESULTS The correction algorithm considerably decreases the disruption of image volume continuity due to the SBA, and improves slice-to-slice intensity continuity. CONCLUSION The proposed technique can greatly reduce the SBA when the SBA can be described as a global intensity variation along the slab. The technique may be used to improve imaging efficiency of the multi-slab three-dimensional fast spin-echo sequences by decreasing the amount of required slab overlap.

Color scene transform between images using Rosenfeld-Kak histogram matching method
In digital color imaging, it is of interest to transform the color scene of an image to the other. Some attempts have been done in this case using, for example, lαβ color space, principal component analysis and recently histogram rescaling method. In this research, a novel method is proposed based on the Resenfeld and Kak histogram matching algorithm. It is suggested that to transform the color...
متن کاملFlicker Reduction in Old Films
This paper deals with the reduction of flicker in old films. This artifact appears as global, quick and random variations of the luminance and contrast between consecutive frames of a sequence. Initially, we present a method based on the correction of mean and variance parameters of the sequence. However, although this method reduces mean and variance variation between frames, it does not yield...
متن کاملMulti-Slab SPACE
Introduction Single Slab 3D turbo spin echo sequence with variable refocusing flip angles (aka SPACE) [1, 2, and 3] has been optimized for PDw, T2w and T1w contrast imaging. In order to obtain 3D high resolution and reduce the acquisition time to the clinical acceptable range, the TR has to be shortened dramatically compared to conventional TSE imaging. Moreover, a relative long echo train has ...
متن کاملFreezing in a Finite Slab Using Extensive Perturbation Expansions Method
In this paper Mathematica is used to solve the moving boundary problem of freezing in a finite slab for higher order perturbations. Mathematica is a new system which makes it possible to do algebra with computer. More specifically, it enables researchers to find the location of the ice at any time for as high order of perturbation as one whishes. Using of Mathematica and outer solution and an i...
متن کاملDose distribution evaluation of various dose calculation algorithms in inhomogeneous media
Background: Dose calculation algorithms play a very important role in predicting the explicit dose distribution. We evaluated the percent depth dose (PDD), lateral depth dose profile, and surface dose volume histogram in inhomogeneous media using calculation algorithms and inhomogeneity correction methods. Materials and Methods: The homogeneous and inhomogeneous virtual slab phantoms used in th...
